Polk County High opened its doors in the fall of 1992 and joined three
smaller schools. Two city schools, Tryon High and Saluda High, and one
county school, Polk Central High merged and placed all of Polk County's
high school students in one building during the 1992-1993 school year.
Nestled neatly in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Polk County
High School is home to approximately 730 of North Carolina's finest
students. Polk County High is a progressive school with a dedicated
faculty and administration. In 1998 - 1999 Polk County High was named a
Top 10 School for Academic Growth and named as a school with Exemplary
Growth for many other years. For the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 academic
years PCHS was recognized as a "High Growth School of
Distinction" in the North Carolina ABC's Accountability Program and
met all No Child Left Behind goals for Adequate Yearly Progress.
