Original New York Production
Judith Anderson Theatre
New York, NY
103 Performances – March thru June,
1996
Take It Easy opened off-Broadway at the Judith Anderson Theatre, March 8, 1996. It attracted thousands of theatre goers as its scheduled run was twice extended. Take It Easy, a low budget, small cast musical, was not the usual off-Broadway fare. Despite its simple, unabashed nostalgic story line, Take It Easy received many excellent reviews and an overwhelmingly positive word of mouth. The Judith Anderson Theatre was filled for virtually every performance; a situation unheard of for an off-Broadway show, with a limited budget and an unknown author; a show produced by a small non-profit producing company. Take It Easy ran 103 performances, evoking audience members to write scores of letters of praise to both author and company. The original book and music were composed by Raymond Fox. The original production was directed by Collette Black, choreography was by Tom Ribbink, musical direction and arrangement by William Zeffiro with orchestration by Mario Sprouse. Take It Easy was produced by New Village Productions.
Author Raymond Fox was greatly honored when Take It Easy was included in the Theatre Yearbook’s The Best Plays of 1995-1996, the indispensable reference work for the American
Theatre.
